how many tracks would i be albe to simultaniously record with the omni studio. i see that it has 2 mic pre amps and two inputs that don't, does that mean i could record four at a time? i need to have something that i could record a couple drum tracks, a guitar, and one for vocals, so i guess i need something that i could record 4 or 5 tracks seperatley and at the same time, then i could go over and do all the other tracks.

what would be the best program to use with the omni? I have cakewalk, cubase and various other programs, but are they compatible with the omni.

i'm still not sure if the omni is right for what i want to do, so if anybody has any opinions on a set-up that might be better for me, by all means let me know.

Depends on what card you get with it, if you get the Delta 66 card then you get S/PDIF you you could by a preamp that has S/PDIF outs (like the DBX 386) and get 6 tracks

i don't understand that becuase i thought the breakout box that came with it was the pre-amp and that was the whole idea of buying the omni studio package

I think that you have 4 inputs on the breakout box, yes? If so i would say that you are limited to 4 unless you route the omni studio to an external mixer. the tracks that you can record seperately depend more on your computer & sequencing software than on your omnistudio. Simultaneously tracks will also depend on computers performance, but it seems that your omnistudio will "allow" 4 seperate tracks of simultaneous recording.

As for software, both cakewalk & cubase work fine with the delta cards. My personal choice is cubase.

My setup is a delta 66 (same sound card as yours) & a mackie 1402 vlz mixer.
