should i hook this up a different way? heres the route

i've got the line out on my computer going into the rca "tape in" jacks on my mixer, then the "tape out" jacks are going back into the line in on the computer. i've the the speakers connected to the headphone out. should i be using the quarter inch control room outputs labeled "control room out" and "main out" instead of the rca jacks? i want to keep it so that i can listen to the sound coming from the computers line out while recording without having it sent back to teh line in and re-recorded.

im not 100% sure but i think you set up a loop there.

And...why are you plugging speakers into a Headphone out?

What you can do...well...let me ask a quesiton.

what mixer do you have?

This will help us give you suggestions on how to hook it up.

I would send your main outs to the computer line in, and the control room outs to your monitors. That's the intention of each one.

will that set it so that i can play back an existing track from my computer while recording a new track without getting it re-recorded?

and also, in that case where will i plug the line out from the computer into on the mixer. (this is a behringer euro 802

a cheap assed sound blaster live 24. the way it is currently hooked up actually isnt making a loop, i have selectors on the rca jacks to send the input to "mix" or "control room" and with it set to control room the incoming sound from the computer (i.e. a track i'm listening to while recording a new track) is sent to the headphones without re entering the sound card. i want to know if i can still do this using the control room and main 1/4 inch outputs too.

Like mentioned above, put your speakers on the control room out. Next, make sure your tape input (coming back form the computer) is set to control room out and NOT to main mix, or you will have a loop. You can't use the main outs for anything except for sending to the computer. If you use them for monitoring purposes you won't be able to hear the return from the computer unless you set it up in a way that makes a loop.

awesome, thanks a lot thats just what i needed to know.
