Slowing becoming un-noob.
If I get this case:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gator-GK88-88Key-Lightweight-Keyboard-Case?sku=544762
It has the interior dimensions of
Length 57 1/2"
Width 18"
Height 6"

Would my keyboard, (yamaha s08) fit in the case if it has these dimensions:
Length 52 3/4"
Width 15 1/4"
Height 6"

The only thing that worries me is the height factor. Since the height is the exact same in both the case and my keyboard, will my keyboard really fit? or is there a chance it could be slightly to big?

Thanks for the help!

Why not just get the Hard Case version for added protection?

I think that the six inch height of both means it will fit perfectly.

Regarding the hard case, I agree with that suggestion if you will be using the keyboard a lot for live gigging. A hard case will offer the keyboard more protection and allow you more freedom when packing your vehicle. An amp banging against a keyboard in a soft case can do a lot of damage fast, for example.

I use an SKB keyboard case for my A-70, and the case has wheels built in. The molded plastic SKB cases are also good because they are very light for their size. I hate the SKB molded plastic racks, but the keyboard cases are good in my opinion.

I play in a Corporate Band that gigs all over the U.S. I have to ship my keyboard to all of these gigs. I purchased my ATA case from these guys and I've never had any damage to my keyboard:

Because the hard case costs more than twice as much.

but offers 10X's the protection.... gig bags are a joke for keys... unless your just taking it to your buddies studio like once a month..

Yeah. But the one I linked to was at least a little harder material than a normal gig bag.

But yeah. This is me just trying to convince myself that it will be enough protection, even though I know it isn't, so I don't have to spend so much money.

A Gig bag is Definitely better than no case at all, like I'm doing right now. I'm lucky I haven't ruined my keyboard yet.

Doesn't matter, one hard whack and the damage will be done.

You are indeed lucky you haven't ruined your keyboard yet.

When you think about what a hard case costs, you have to ask yourself one question:

"What will it cost to replace or repair my keyboard?"

The molded plastic SKB cases are really not all *that* much money, and certainly are less expensive than the cost of fixing or replacing your current keyboard. Money very well spent in my opinion.

You are like a guy I just worked with a few weeks ago. This fellow hand carried his Triton Extreme 88 to the gig and from the gig. No case of any kind, no hand cart or dolly to roll it on, nothing. He had multiple double doors to go through, an industrial elevator, loading dock, parking lot, loading it into a car. Insane, just an expensive accident waiting to happen.

There are times to try and save money, and there are times to just spend the money and get what you need. This is the latter, in my opinion.

ok... so as long as you're going in with your eyes open... it may not be the best but it is (marginally) better than none...

The SKB cases do not fit my keyboard. At least the cheaper ones. One that fits my keyboard costs about $500. My keyboard cost me about $700. Not worth it.

EDIT: Nevermind. The site I was looking at only gave the "minimum dimensions" I found the maximum dimensions to fit my keyboard. So yeah. That isn't that bad, $250.

Thanks for the help everyone.

You can probably find a price below $250 if you shop around. I think I paid something like $200-225 for mine.

Folks please listen to Sonic Albert. The man knows his shit in a big way. :D

Help!!! Need Advice!!!

Wait...So on the SKB site it says that the depth of the interior dimension is 7.2"
But then it says something like "the padding makes it so there is only 5.5" for your keyboard"

So My keyboard's depth is 6". Will I be able to trim down the foam or something like that to make it so it'll fit my keyboard?

sounds like it's doable... i would go slow with trimming the foam so ya dont get just a little too much gone and then the keyboard rattles around... good luck...

I looked at both your links. You Yamaha is indeed tall, but it will fit in the Gator case. Also, the Gator case is not as deep as an SKB case. Therefore, the Gator case is better.

I bought a Gator case for one of my 61-key synths, and because my particular synth is not very deep (wide), there's too much space remaining on the inside of the case. It still packs fine, but I wish the case were more snug.

My SKB case for my 88-key Kurzweil, is also perfect, but the Kurzweil (which is very deep) uses every millimeter of space.

I think the hardshell Gator is what you want to buy. And I paid $189 delivered from a store in Florida. Shop around. Check Ebay. You'll find the price you want.

Really, there are not THAT many keyboardists looking for road cases the same day you are. Try Ebay.
