My question is regarding portable vocal booths (both DIY and purchased [i.e. Real Traps])

While their main goal is to eliminate outside room noise, how effective are they in containing the vocal? If one lived in an apartment or something and wanted to do vocals that were a bit "empassioned" would they help keep some of that sound localized so neighbors didn't get upset? If not, is there anything that can do that? I know sepeartion, and density, and all those things, but can a smaller DIY type product have similar results? Thanks guys.

Probably not. For that you really need a sealed sound-proof room. I'd love to sell you a PVB! But not under false pretenses. :D

Well, not really...and Ethan doesn't present them that way. They're designed to reduce the imprint the room makes on the recorded source, whatever that may be.
