I have a brand new version of Cubase 5, and I have a question. I found a sampled instrument I really want, and it's available in Halion format. Does Cubase 5 offer native support of Halion instruments, or do I need to purchase a player?

I just want to make certain I don't waste money on an instrument I can't use.

Thanks.

It's my understanding that if your buying a instrument in Halion format it will either come with the version of Halion needed (Halion one and Halion Symphonic orchestra are different for instance) to run it.

Actually, in my experience I have yet to buy a sample library that didn't come with something to use the samples with (especially if your forking more than $100 for it).

What instrument btw?

It's a collection of recorders called "Renaisance flutes" by SampleTekk.

I have run into products that do not come with a player. I had to download the free Kontakt 2 player once to get a purchased instrument to work.

So even though I have Halion instruments with Cubase 5, I still need a separate player to play a newly purchased Halion instrument? Interesting.

I'm just throwing out a guess that it will work with Halion one. I was merely stating that I know with out a doubt that Halion one and Halion Symphonic orchestra look nothing alike GUI wise.

It may be that this will only work with Halion 3, I can't give you a 100% no doubt answer though.

I would hope that this can be used with Kontakt player 4, but even that you don't know because I know some libraries only work with the full version of Kontakt.

I have Kontakt player 4 for Steven Slate, Session Strings and DFH 2. But I have downloaded free libraries from sites like the above library only to find that I needed the full version of Kontakt in order for them to not be in "demo" mode.
