i dont know if i am doing something wrong or if it is just the way the mic is

but

all the music is done for the song so i have been trying to lay down the vocals for this song but heres what happens

the singer listens through the headphones and sings and then we go to listen back .. and the track looks like it would be a beautiful volume but then i go to listen to it back and its almost not audible and if i turn then mic up much higher it will clip and become distorted

heres my idea:

turn the music down so that i dont have to turn the mic up... but then we end up with a quiet song

does anyone else have any ideas on what to do

ummm......... :D

1. turn your speakers up

2. arrange your speakers so that they're facing each other and stick your head between them.........pull em against your ears

3. just messin with u man

Maybe you have some really low or high frequencies going on, that you are'nt hearing, that's keeping you from being able to get a good volume of the frequencies that you can hear. Maybe some of the other tracks are eating up the vocal space. Maybe, maybe,........Maybe this is'nt a question for the mic thread?

Oh, I know. You need a fancier, more expensive mic. Yea that's it. I know it.

lol thanks

seriously, i think the answer is proper tracking and mixing.

Dude ... come on.

Trouble shoot it. Work with it, experiment, practice, and figure it out.

We all have faith that you can do it. :D It's basic trouble-shooting, and yea, it's a pain in the a$$, but it can be fun and rewarding once you get it all worked out on your own. We've all had to go through it at some point, and many of us still do on a regular basis.

I am not a pro studio guy by any means, but I can offer you some general advice that can really make your recordings better: Understanding levels, and keeping a close eye on them.

Not just peak levels, but check the average level of your tracks. Once you have a good handle on that, things get a lot simpler. That is a good place to start.

yeah ive gotten it a little more under control

thank you MEN

hahaha

I am not sure what recording software you are using but you should SEE if the track has some decent signal on it. If the track looks like it has a good strong signal then truble shoot your gain and hardware on the outpput chain.

Make sure that if you have the monitor switch on while the singer is tracking it(so that they can hear themself in the headphones more) that you switch it off for playback or that will result in little-no playback of the vocal track.
