For anyone who can help: I'm evaluating an AX2-212 and noticed an unacceptably loud and annoying "pop" when switching from clean to dirty channels, but only while a note is ringing. This happens with most of the best sounding amp models, provided that compression isn't turned on. I'd like to know how some of you defeated this problem, if at all.

Only after lots of experimenting did I learn that the compression can silence the nasty pop during transition, but who wants to leave that on all the time? How do you guys live with this problem, and is there a better way around it?

Thanks much

In My Experience

I'm not a guitar player but...

The lead guitar player in my band used that amp for just a little over a year. He absoluetely loved it!!! But that's while it worked.

Of course right after the year warranty expired, all sorts of "bugs" were happening... It's computer software in it. Anyhow, the main problem was that patches would just randomly change. Until soon enough, everything patch he had saved was completely gone. Eventually, the same settings were in every patch.

Needless to say, it's simply trash. Couldn't sell it either since it couldn't really do anything. So, he's now just using the speakers out of it.

Well that tosses major salads. Sounds like it was getting clobbered with line voltage spikes to cause all those patch changes. I can only hope it was an isolated event.

Before you buy, you might want to compare the AX2-212 to the Johnson Millennium 150 (or better yet, the 250). When I compared the Line6 gear against the Johnson, I bought Johnson. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Line6, they have some good sounding gear. The Johnson will cost you more, but after a year of playing through my Johnson Millennium 250 half-stack, I feel it was worth every extra penny.
Rock On

In case anyone hasn't experienced this problem to know what I'm talking about, I just isolated it to Distortion Box model #3.4. When you switch into a patch with that effect, especially from a clean channel, a loud pop will penetrate your eardrums. This happens on all AX2', not just mine.

Line6 has been notified. I would expect an eventual s/w fix.

I Don't Know

I just picked-up my Soundcraft 200B from the repair shop. While I was there, I found-out they already have had 11 AX2-212s in for repair. That's just one shop.

Yikes. The Harmoney Central reviews, if they're any gauge, don't reflect this kind of poor reliability. All I can do is hope.

If the thing blows out then I'll just go get the Mesa Dual Rectum-frier I've wanted but can't justify the $$$.
