Question for Lexicon MRC Users

I was interested in purchasing a Lexicon LXP 1 for my reverb applications and was wondering how essential the optional MRC controller is, and exactly what I can do with it.

I use a Delta 44 soundcard, so I was also wondering if MIDI inputs are essential in order for the MRC to be used effectively.

I'd think twice about that MRC. I don't exactly know if you're mising out on much on the LXP1 , but I sold my MRC.

Boy, I do(did) know a lot about SysEx programming (etc) but this baby is the perfect example of nonclientfriendly programming. So if your interested in a MRC :

1. don't overpay
2. make sure it's internal memory (preset) for the LXP1 is still in there.
3. make sure you get a manual

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the sound on the LXP1 reverbs?

To my memory its sound awesome. I do know most secondhand LXP1 are even costlier than the new MPX100 etc, so make sure you do get a good deal on the unit. I've heard it a couple of times and was impressed everytime. I even believe it was the same reverb that was used in the biger version, the LXP-15. I've used that one several years, and would buy a good secondhand one everyday.

So mayby instead of the LXP1 you should consider these :

- secondhand LXP15 (preferably version 2)
- secondhand or new MXP-100 or 500
- secondhand or new TCElectronic M-one

I appreciate your reply, and I was in fact referring to the LXP 1.

I think I'll pass on the MRC, and search ebay for a decent priced LXP1.

MRC

When discontinued, the MRC was available for $100, which was the price for the last software upgrade alone previously. If you can pick one up for around that, it's definitelyworth it. You can't do any signifigant editing on the LXP-1 without it ie; there are parameters that can only be accessed through a MRC. There's two major versions, V.3 and V.4, 3 supplying one way control of the LXP-1, LXP-5, and PCM70 and 4 providing 2 way communication with the LXP-1, LXP-5, and LXP-15. For use with just a LXP-1, V.4 would be better and the presets sound a lot cooler on that final version. The LCD display will start to dim and develop blacked out edges, but that's just the way it is. I've had one controlling a LXP-1 and two LXP-5s for over 10 years. FWIW, I find the LXP-5 verb more useful than the LXP-1's, despite it's single algorithm. I wouldn't want to use either without an MRC for easy tweaking though. HTH

Anyone here use, or have knowledge of a Lexicon PCM 91 digital reverb? I am using a Roland 890 recorder, and it also has reverbs, but, unfortunately, not too swift. I ordered the PCM 91, and should be receiving it any day now. Just hope it will hook up to the 890 VS. Anyone?
