Metal dude
I just got a ecm8000, and it came with a windscreen foamy thing. when whould i use this ? in what situation?
It sez for outdoor measurement ( thats funny shit)
I bought it for drum overheads. Whould i use the windscreen if i was to close mic hi-hats?

When testing loudspeakers for example, free-field testing is often preferred instead of anechoic chambers, because you don't have the restrictions found in small chambers, which may only be good down to about 100 Hz. Testing in a regular room is also out of the question, since room reflections and standing waves would prevent getting an accurate picture of what you're measuring.

At JBL, we had a mic setup on the roof of the building to test low frequency response of speakers and systems. We'd wait for the traffic to go by, and then run the curves during the quiet periods. Since the noise from wind hitting the diaphragm could be a factor, we used a windscreen and simply compensated for any losses.

That's what the screen is for - it really is a wind screen for outdoor use when you're doing testing. You don't need to use it for miking drums.
