Question about the new Musician's Friend

I just got the new catalogue. On the bottom left corner of page 26, there is a really nice Dean 12-string guitar for only $399.

My first question is, is that guitar any good? I'm not a guitar player so I don't need a Taylor or Martin. I just want something for some glitz.
Also, has anyone ever ordered a guitar through the mail? How is it packed and have you ever experienced any problems with the guitar being broken out of the box?
Thanks,
RF

Musician's Friend was bought out by Guitar Center a while back, so most of the gear you can find either at the store or in the catalog. The guitars are packed very well before shipping and should be guaranteed and insured.

Guitar selection and choice is very personal and subjective. If you can get to a guitar store (Guitar Center or another) you will be much more satisfied with playing individual guitars that meet your playability and musical requirements. There is no substitute for actually playing different guitars even from the same manufacturers. You'll find one that's made for you.

That being said, I have bought thru the mail from a seller on Ebay. It was a customized Epiphone Casino that was a really good buy. If packed right, you can ship anything.

Another outfit that ships mail order is Carvin.....lots of different opinion about them, but generally not bad for the price and selection. Their factory is in north San Diego county; if you are nearby go check them out as well as a Guitar Center.

Good luck hunting.

The chick in my band plays a Dean Jumbo acoustic solid top.

I like the sound of it. Booming for rhythm and that's all she does.

What size, model is the 12 string?

honestly, it looks like one of the nicer ones but I'm not much into electric twelve strings unless I'm double necking, (which I have not yet done...:D) When you said Taylor or Martin, I assumed you meant acoustics.

I'll tell you though, if I were going to buy an instrument that will be used as rarely as a twelve string electric, I would definitely buy a knockoff or lesser brand. I would feel comfortable with Dean as a brand on an instrument like that. The way I see it, no need to be spending a grand or two on an axe you'll use five times a year.

rushfan33-Musician's Friend runs a special on that guitar every other month where they drop the price to $349.00. :D
