hey guys, first time posting I guess I'll do an intro a bit later but I'll go ahead and give just a bit of information on my set-up

currently I'm using live 9 (trial, getting suit in later today or tomorrow) and my device is a personus firestudio.

now at some point next year (with the new chipset and ram coming out) I'm going to build a new computer, I have always been kind of a techy however there is one upgrade that I think I can make on this computer for recording purposes but I'm just not sure it will make an impact or that much of one

my computer has Nvidia high def audio, on board. would upgrading to a real sound card help in any significant way?

The presonus firestudio is your 'real sound card'.
A device like that completely replaces your onboard sound.

thanks, that's what I thought but just wasn't completely sure if an additional soundcard would free up some cycles.

Hello Drogheda,

No, because the Firestudio uses ASIO drivers, ASIO stands for Audio Stream Input Output, which means you can only use one input and output device at the same time.
Having the Firestudio interface you can also build yourself a computer without an integrated sound card.

Best regards,
