Hey everyone, been ages since I've posted here. I'm getting ready to finally set up my new studio. I'm thinking a snake is going to be useful. If I plug the snake connectors to different mic-pres, would the differing tones of each pre be preserved? Does that question make sense? Thanks guys.

A snake will not affect the tone of anything in any way. And by the way, that's more or less the way my room is set up.

If I were you I would run the snake to the inputs of my DAW / interface and set everything up just like a live performance. A snake is nothing more than an extension cord for your mics and instruments.

Think of a snake as just a bunch of mic cables all run in one outside casing. They won't affect your recording or tone any more than any other XLR cable.

FYI, most of my recording is done via a 30 metre/100 foot snake, simply because that's the shortest one I have and it's more convenient than running a bunch of separate cables from control room to studio (or bedroom 3 to bedroom 4 as the real estate company would call them!).

I hope you've installed a line of sight window in between them... the real estate agents will have fun trying to spin that as a feature if you sell... :D

I always check every mirror in any home studio with THIS example. ;)

Yep you'll be fine! They'll all still be separate signals!

Snakes are pretty handy sometimes. Just be sure to get the non-poisonous kind :D

I'm a bit worried about Bobbsy... his eyesight can't be the best these days and he may have got a carpet snake by accident...

That's much better than my snake...it's self coiling!

...and it adds a bit of extra bite to vocals!

Fang you!
