hey

This may be a dumb question, but I've noticed that on '57s the windscreen rotates freely instead of solidly screwing down immobile. Is there any practical/technical reason for this?

cheers

Probably a cost reason. I don't know, but I have about 6 of them that the screen has come so loose that they rattle when put on drums. It really sucks.

Anybody know a fix for that, besides tape?

There was a thread on this awhile back. I think it was Harvey Gerst who suggested a tiny drop on crazy glue where the top meets the body.

There are no dumb questions!

The windscreen on the SM57 rotates because it is clamped into a groove in the housing. Usually they don't rotate, but some get loose and rotate. It is OK as it will not fall off or cause any quality drop in the sound. They do not screw off and twisting it too much will make it looser.
