question about pre amps

i have the presonus 8 input interface and want a new pre amp. Does the preamp have to be 8 channels or do i get a 2 channel one? i have no idea where is goes with my interface, lieke where i plug it in. help!

Which presonus interface? The firepod?

You only need as many channels of preamp as you want to record simultaneously. So, if you only need 2 simultaneous channels, you only need 2 channels of preamp.
