Question about MP3 Quality

When I render down my project to MP3 format it sounds great! When I upload the song to another website (reverbnation, soundclick, etc.) I lose the quality from the render. Is this common? Is there anything I can do? Thanks.

I'm not sure about those sites, but I know myspace converts any mp3's you upload to a lower bitrate mp3 for streaming. I suspect something similar here,
