I am posting this in the noob section because this is undoubtedly a noob question...even though I should know the answer to this...

ok so I am using a midi controller keyboard and drum pad going directly into my computer. I want to use a condenser mic and plug it into the mixer and then go into the computer...

the question is where should the monitors be plugged into the computer or the Mixer?

I can't seem to figure this question out on my own...I would imagine the mixer that way i can defeat the sound of the monitors with the mixer during recording...(and i guess the same question would apply to headphones)

any answer would be much appriecated..thanks guys.

You want to hear what is being recorded, so plugging the monitors into your computer's soundcard outputs would be my recommendation. If your mixer has a 2-track option, you could plug the output of your sound card into your mixer and monitor through it.

Try hooking your monitors to the main outs of your mixer, hooking your soundcard line-out to your tape-in on your mixer and hook your alt 3/4 channel into your soundcard line-in. Route the tape-in to your control room of your mixer. Route the mics or whatever your recording to the control room and Alt 3/4 buss. On playback/record you should be able to hear both out your monitors and only be recording what's on the alt 3/4 buss. Make sure your software is only recording what's on the line-in and not the playback tracks also.

PS: Thanks Tex
