If I'm going to be recording one track at a time on the computer, would I still need a mixer or could I just use a preamp product instead?

Thanks

You should be able to get by with the preamp alone into your card (using the proper connections, of course).

which will have better sound quality though? I'm deciding between a small behringer mixer (1202) or an m-audio audio buddy or DMP3.

Or maybe just get both mixer and preamp?

If you can do both, get the mixer and the DMP3.

It's always handy to have a small mixer around - You could use it for monitoring, portable use, whatever.

But yeah, the DMP is probably going to be your best bet in this case.

There's just so much stuff to buy! My head's spinning.

Well, thanks for the advice. Actually, would the M-audio Audio Buddy be a good buy? I try to stay on a budget here...

A small mixer like the Yamaha MG10/2 for $99 would be a good start. It's got 4 preamps, and you could trade up later if needed
