Where can I find some?

New preferably!

10 pieces should do the trick.

Back-story;

I found a guy who's interesting in buying my MS16 as he wants a second one for transfers, or for spare parts down the road. He claims the only thing holding him back from buying it is that he can't find GP9 1" stock anywhere.

Any leads on a reliable source?

Cheers! :)

How about Quantegy 499?

Would that do?

Unfortunately, no. He's used GP9 on his current MS16, claims to love the sound of the deck with only that tape and had his machine set up to work on it...even though the machine was never intended to use anything other then 456. He's concerned that if he can't find a decent cache of GP9 to get him through the next few years, he'll end up dumping his machine.

I explained to him that GP9 is more abrasive on the heads compared to 456 and he's OK with that because he really only is concerned with finding a second MS16 with decent heads, (which mine are), to have as a spare parts machine.

So, I'll ask again, do any of you guys know of a retailer or perhaps even a studio with a quantity of this tape that I can point him toward and hopefully sell my machine to him in the process? GP9, one inch.

Cheers! :)

I seen a thread for gp9 for sale on gearslutz. I do remember it is used without splices. I'm thinking it's 1" I know he would prefer new but this is what I've found so far.

Never mind, it was 2" tape. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find something.

Yeah, did some searches too but 1" GP9 is indeed tough to find. Too bad the buyer is so adamant about the GP9. Makes me wonder about it. If he really wants to go nuts, maybe sell him on the ATR master tape? Sorry for not being any more help to you but I'm just slightly pissed about that buyer's "requirements".

He probably wouldn't consider 996 either huh? My understanding is that 996 is the direct predecessor of GP9 and quite similar, though it is on the limited sticky watch list...but I see it come up on eBay quite a bit and recently there was a lot of the 1" stuff too.

Hmm very strange that it's so hard to find GP9. I got plenty of it here at my local tape supplier, just drive up and buy it off the shelf, $180 for 1” x 10.5” x 2500FT. The Australian dollar is on par with the US dollar so would be a really really bad time to be buying stuff from Australia and shipping it to US.

Here is their full price list if anyone is interested: http://www.casstape.com.au/Price_Lists/AUDIO_WEBSITE.pdf

Thanks for the pdf link! :)

I'll forward it to him though I'm sure the shipping to Canada would be prohibitively expensive. :o

Cheers! :)

Thanks guys, but long story short, he's a GP9 freak. :o

Cheers! :)
