This is a recording I did with synth drums, some synth effects (in Fruity Loops) and live guitar through my PC Line-In (no mixers or other hardware) all mixed in Adobe Audition. It doesn't really go anywhere, just your basic verse/chorus/verse/chorus tempelate. It sounds a bit like Katatonia :P

Being in a band now, we'll probably be doing a lot of recordings this way and for a zero budget production with this as a basis of comparison, do you think we could make some decent recordings?

No. The drums sound nasty man. The cymbals are gash. The guitars and bass are nasty when distorted, but the clean guitar is clean and not too bad.
Tighten up that low end man. It seriously destroys the mix even more.
Cool song though. Get some vox over that and then re-post it if you could.

Hmm, tips on cleaning up the distortion?

It all depends on off serious you want to get. Most people hear are going to tell you that the only way to record guitar is through an amp. Also most will say back off the distortion alot and use more mid then you think.

Yeah try laying off the distortion and cutting the lo end maybe and playing about with the mids to get the desired tone.

don't forget to get the amp off of the floor and try for a wooden chair/stool.

The drums r ok for getting the idea across but lack dynamics and sound sound "real". If you don't have access to a real kit, I would recommend hanging out at one of the collaboration sites and see if you could get someone to help you out...the drums on your piece are really pretty simple.

I kinda like the idea of what you've got going but it gets a little repetative...a solo to break it up and some vocals are really needed.

Thanks for the advice guys, I showed that piece to the band at our first practice yesterday and it sounds incredible played live with real drums.
