Quality check....

this isnt me but yeah hows the quality?? u can comment on track too its a diss to some kid.........its like a 1min long... got new equipement just wanted to check quality.
 
Sounds OK unless u want us to get real critical. But it's acceptable, vocals sound a little harsh though and the beat is too low and not bangin' enough. If you just got the equip recently, sometimes it takes a little while to master it especially if you've been used to something else for so long.
 
naw i got it 2 days ago....... firebox and my first ever monitors..never mix on monitors had to make the switch. Event xl8..... but yeah u can be real critical i only spent like an hour on mix just trying to get the hang of this mixing. so when u say harsh what kind of improvement do u suggest?? especially for vocals (i do understand the mixing terms not too much of newbie),
 
You can try to retrack if it's an important song and play with positioning that may help some, but some mics are just harsh in general. If you wanna quick fix the EQ is there to use. That's just my opinion listening on PC speakers, I'm not at my workstation now so I can't check it on the monitors so there's a chance it's just these speakers. The overall sound quality, if you turn the beat up some is pretty good though. The firebox is a nice interface and can get really good results and the Events are nice from what I hear, I've never used them though. What mic are you using?
 
i am using shure ksm 27.....i also did notice beat could of been louder its just i been listening to music all day on these babys so i figured my ear was just tired... its not important track its just i want to get some decent sound. i got question i want my music sound more airy like wide. what should i do??

some times i record 3 main vocal tracks pan on left like 50 and same on right and leave one in the center.....but i am not sure if thats the correct way...
 
There's no correct way just whatever sounds good, and I love the KSM27 it's my "go to" mic out of all my mics and it's defintely on the flat side (not harsh). To make things sound wider you can do that by panning, if you dont have the tracks for the beats try a stereo imager on the beat itself. Waves has a pretty cool one if I remember correctly it's called the S1.
 
I think you just need to EQ the vocals a little. It's hip hop so it can be a little grimmy... Needs to be a little wammer on the vocals. It's the highs (the "S") on my studio speakers. Just use EQ to cut that frequency on the highs or use a small amount of DeEsser. Like said the beat needs to have more bump on the low end. You can fix this if you have all the instruments and drums separated you can EQ the bass and bring up the kick.
 
well i made a couple of changes.......and i do use that wave bundle but i never quiet understood the desser what does it do exactly?? well here is the new track:
 
The DeEsser isn't recommended to always be used. It's mosty the last resort to get out the 'S' sound in vocals that are irritating.

You want to use mic technics and EQ to fix it if you can.
