I understand the excitement of recording music, I've been doing it a long time, mostly in the "analog world". I've recently entered the digital realm which is a whole 'nother ball of wax. You need to slow down a bit and take a deep breath. "Daydreamer" got it right, it's all about mic placement/technique and trial and error. Read the forums regarding mic placement and about the particular equipment that you're using and get a handle on it. You can make a good recording on a tight budget and using minimal equipment, if you take your time and have patience.

Just out of interest, what kind of music do you record and how dense is it likely to be in terms of other instruments because that might be a factor in terms of how many mics you use on the drums. You can use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 all the way up to, well, whatever.
