Rokket

Trailing Behind Again
I posted an older, not-so-polished version of this song about a year ago. I have since been able to finish it and make it the way it sounded in my head. There were several problems with it that I was able to, I think, fix. One, the drums didn't quite fit, and two, the vocals were not stellar.
Some retracking and some help from friends has gotten this one where it is today.
The lead guitars are Purge. I doubt he thought I would use his lines the way I did... :D
The drums are MadAudio.
The rest is me.

Note: Rabbit, I tried to get the time to ask you to retrack, but we just never seemed to be in the same place at the same time...

Daddy's Little Girl
P.S., there may be some issues with Soundclick's compression. I hope not...

I am uploading the song again... give me about 10 minutes before you try to access it. The mp3 encoding ruined it...

Wow Rokket, got some kick to it now !!

I like the sweet intro line and then how it gets right to the point.

Purges licks are well Purge !! :D

Love the bass ...

Great drumming by our madz

Rhythm good

At 2:05 the bass, drums and rhythm get tight !!

I am listening on headphones, so don't really want to comment on the mix, untill I can listen on monitors.

Your vox have improved Rokket. :)

The encoding still sucks, though....

EDIT: that's weird, it's only the lo-fi version that's hurting. The hi-fi sounds a little better...

Anybody know of a place besides lightning mp3 which appears to be down, where I can post this song and they won't trash it when it gets encoded?

I didn't have any trouble on hi-fi Rokket.

I am pretty sure there is some tweeking to be done, but like someone said on here, after you listen to it 1000 times it becomes normal.
I have lived through Jake-owa's reviews of my stuff, so I am thick skinned enough to take criticism. As long as it's to improve the song...

Probably the way they meant it to be.
Of course I did authorize downloading if anyone can't play the hi-fi version...

Hey Rokket, much better sounding now...very lively. If you want to send me a Higher bitrate version, I will PM you an email address. So long as it's under 10 meg, I can get it that way. Otherwise post it at yousendit, and I can DL it, and host it for ya. I'll PM my email right now.

Nice job on this though. Very even mix. I hear teh compression artifacts of soundclick, but still sounds really nice man.... :D

Thanks Ed!
I PM'd you about that. I will just leave it on Soundclick. It's good enough that anyone who knows what they are looking for can find the problems even through the mp3 compression...
Thanks for the listen!

Hey Rokket,

I listened several times and I love the rhythm guitar and the tone captured especially during the chugging sections of the verses. It really drives and holds the tune on track.
The drums are sounding great, maybe a little harsh on some of the cymbals but that is a minor nit pick, great playing by Madz as well, nice and solid straight forward playing, not too much venturing off which allows the song to be driven forward at all times. Good stuff there on the playing and the overall mix.
The vocals at times are a little washy, they seem to quiver, a little lacking in gusto, a few pitch problems here and there but coming from myself who doesn't even attempt vocals well I aren't going to call you out on that one too much, just an honest viewpoint in constructive criticism. Maybe some lows added to the vocal track to thicken the track out slightly.
What effects are on the vocals?????
The volume of the vocals could be notched up a tad (as little as 1-2db's) which would bring them up front just a little more to where I would like to have them sitting. That of course is just my personal taste.

Purge's guitars are sounding fine with some nice playing going on as well.
The bass is doing what I feel it should in this tune and that is holding it's own without fighting the kick for the same frequency range. The low end is being carried without drawing attention. Nicely sitting in the mix.

The actual structure of the tune is what you would expect from a rock tune and that is how it should be.

Thanx for sharing this with us Rokket, your family should feel proud!!
This review is just my personal take on things and I aim to give constructive crtiticism in the attempt at what this clinique is all about, and that is sharing and learning!

Thanx again Rokket...Good Stuff!!!... :) :) :)

It's funny you would mention the vocals. They are my achilles heal also. Actually, I was singing this out of my range. I tried it in range and it sounded like crap. I will try adding some lows in the eq and bring up the volume.
The only effect on the vocals is a slight splash of reverb. Nothing else. What you hear is my voice.
Thanks for the listen! I appreciate it very much!

I would not add any lows to the vocal. I would add some light compression to the vocal to make it more intimate. Also, roll of the lows on the reverb.

Whoa...dude....what kind of effect are you using on your vox?

Seriously Ed, this is a big improvement.
Me likey, me download, me add to my daily work playlist!

How were the previous guitars tracked? Was it a V-amp?
Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. ;) :D

What kind of guitar are you using anyhow, since you implied you have a different guitar these days...

Rock on wit' yo badself Eddie!

Well done man.....a rocking tune....send me a song
and i'll add some drums for you.
