Hi,

I am wanting to purchase another mic for my recording studio.

I am thinking a RODE NT1-A. Not looking to spend LOADS, so yeah.. around that price range.

I am from Australia, so price is a big issue for us. We pay double what Americans pay, so yeah.. I have seen some Rode NT1-A's on eBay for $340.

I am a solo musician. I am getting into vocal work and I also do guitar/keyboard.

I am starting to sing RnB (hard as hell).. If that matters at all.

Love my NT-1a. Works well on most voices. I like it a little better on male voices than female. For a breathy female, I prefer an AT4047. Some males say the NT-1a accentuates a nasal quality in their voice, but that has not been my experience. The frequency curve shows a 2db bump at 150hz, a 3db bump at 3K-5K, and a 5 db bump at 12K, with a general gentle rise over the full frequency range. I suppose if you did not need/want such a bump at those frequencies for your voice, you might not like the sound, but you pretty much have to try it to know. In order of preference for my voice, I like my SM7B and NT-1a the best, then my AT4047, while my AT3035 and SP B3 tie for last place, out of these mics. On females, I really like the SP B3 and AT4047 the best, but the NT-1a is not bad.
