Still Learning.......
Some MP3's at last!

There a band called No Skill Required from the Isle of Wight in the UK. I think they're influences are probably the Atari's and The Starting Line. My influences (as you can probably hear) are Trombino and Tom Lord Algae.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!!

I want as much feedback as possible please!!!

It was recorded using only Dynamic Mics on the kit (Sennheiser e604 x 2, e845 x1, e835 x2, MD421 x1, SM 57 x1 - it was before I got the SP B1 or any other condenser of my own), POD II for the guitars, Laney Hardcore series Bass amp line out for the Bass, and the MD421 on vocals.

This all went into a Behringer MX2004a mixer, into a gadget Labs Wave 8/24 interface, into Cubase. I mixed using Eltax Monitor 3 Hi-Fi speakers (unfortunatly its all I have until I can afford the Tannoy Reveals).

You'll probably notice the popping in it - I haven't got that sorted (I need a new Motherboard and processor - there are chipset conflicts with the card).

I'm hoping they'll put the other MP3's up soon so you can rip apart all the others too! I'd really like to know what it sounds like on Monitors - I haven't had the opportunity yet.

Tell me where I've gone wrong, what needs changing etc.

Cheers, Neil

Pretty cool song for the most part. I liked your voice. Very dry and in your face. I wonder if others will like it, but any way I do.

I'm hearing clicking noises throughout the song that I don't think you intend to be there. There are some timing issues throughout the song, but quite a few during the intro. The tempo is kind of all over the place - some probably intentional, some probably not.

get some condensors- the vocal are little up front for me- i like particulary with punk- to have the vocals and music in about the same plane- the drums dont sound bad- but with a few sd overheads they could sound really good- keep it up

The clicking was due to the chipset conflicts between my soundcard and motherboard, so that will be sorted when I get a new motherboard and processor.

As far as timing, its a pretty hectic, but on the whole I think the drummer has done a good job - he's a very good drummer if you could hear some of the other stuff he does.

The vocals were quite interesting to record (they're not mine btw, I just recorded it!). I recorded them, then while trying out a few effects (reverb, chorus etc) just for a joke I compressed them as far as the compressor would go (the compressor on the VST dynamics section of Cubase). The effect actually bought the vocals out a lot more, gave them some real interesting dynamics and tones. We ended up doing this on all the vocals on all five songs. Strange how these things happen.

Anyway, I really really appreciate the replies so far. I've never had anyone with any sort of 'know-how' comment on my production before!

Keep it coming! Please!

Neil
