Recently acquired a DA-88/Tascam 8trk board for next to nothing from a guy I work with. As a working musician with lots of time in pro studios, I'm having great fun and am amazed with the results I'm getting.

One thing I can't seem to get right is how to do punch ins with this thing. I've walked thu the manual's instructions of setting up start and end boundaries, etc, etc, but when I try to say, punch in a couple of measures worth of a guitar solo, I get a sliver of silence on the track just before and after the auto punch in. THis is ok when there's nothing around it, but not when alots happening.
Any ideas?

Hey man!
I don't know if you are or not, but, start playing along with the track before the punch. So, you are not waiting for the punch to happen and then you start playing. That should cover the hole. Do the same thing for the punch out. Don't stop playing until the punch is done. Also, check the in/out times because even the frames matter. You could also use another track to make a new take and then merge the two togather. Punches can be tricky when there is stuff right before and after the place you want to get in. Happy recording. Hope that helped a little.
