I've got a bunch of plugins I want to use, but I can't seem to get cakewalk to recognize them. How do I go about importing/loading them?

Are they DX plugins or VST?

Cakewalk should automatically recognize DX plugins; however you can't use VST plugins in Cakewalk without a VST to DX wrapper.

Thanks. Where can I get a VST to DX wrapper? Freeware, by chance?

Spin Audio has a "lite" version for free.

You might find others through a Google search.

Some of these wrappers do VST only, whereas some do VSTi as well. Generally I expect the ones you pay for will give you the most features and flexibility. They tend not to be too expensive ($50 or so).

Cakewalk just acquired the VST wrapper from FXpansion. FXpansion used to also offer a lite version of their wrapper. Don't know if it's still available with the Cakewalk takeover. Might be worth looking on the Cakewalk site.

I must admit, I'm mildly retarded. I downloaded the Wrapper, did the installation...but I don't see any program to run...and I don't see in cakewalk where I have any option to use it. I'm obviously missing something.

Look in the folder where you installed the wrapper. You'll see an application file. Double-click that, and it will ask you where you have your vst plugins stored. Tell it where they are, and it will find them and work its magic! After that, the vst plugins will show up in the Sonar audio fx list, and if you get the good wrapper, it will convert vsti's, also. Like Amplitube, and Fruity Loops (if you install the vst version). They'll show up in the dxi list in Sonar. Real cool. Good luck.

... and you know that won't happen with the "lite" version of that wrapper?
