Good Experience

This is my first time mixing this style of music, but it was cool. Not sure if I had a possible client that wanted to hire my services to record something like this, that I would feel confident that I could do a good job with their performance. Im not sure I would take on the job. Anyways this was a great experience for me and I guess I would need to dl some other stuff to reference too but I just made it sound the way I thought it should sound.

The funny thing is I have a project I was working on prior to this for a gospel group. I felt like the lord was pulling me one way and devil the other. lol

Seriously a very cool experience and wouldnt mind getting some more practice on this style to extend my skills.

Problems I had with this was,,,,,,,,, tryin to find definition in the guitars, I just felt they sounded crowded, Im used to a more simpler sound. The vocals,,,,,,,,,, not having anything to reference too.... I wasnt sure how they should sound neither. But I figured the rough and raw sound was the way to go. A little compression to fatten them up. The snare after listening to it again I know I need to work on and can fix that no problem.

People with experience with this style feel free to comment, if it sucks tell it does but tell me what sucks about it. Give me some reference groups to listen too also so I can get familiar with this style. Here ya go

heheh..

Youre mix sounded good man.
I coulda used more click in the kick and high end growl in the bass guitar personally. Imaging was a little monoish too.
I liked the doubled vox here and there.

That's sounding good, maybe too much bass and vocals. Guitars are killer.

Hey bro thanks for listening,,,,,, Just finished listening to your mix and your guitars sound flippin awesome too...nice spacing and depth. Only thing I heard was standing out a tad was the reverb on the vocals. Maybe a little shorter decay time. Other then that it was super.

1. There will be no remixing of the given material.
(that means what i give is what you get. Do not add/musically alter the material)
This is a little gray. No replacing tracks is clear.

What about copying/doubling tracks? Dropping tracks? muting portions? pitch/tempo changes? reversing? others?

Looking forward to this contest :)

Shared third last time, that means I got only 3 people to beat, piece of cake!

However, I will wait with posting my entry, so I can hear what other people made first. That way, I know what I have to do better.

I interpreted the rules as you can do what ever you want with the tracks as long as they're the same tracks you were given in the first place, nothing new. I don't know about editing the parts to change how the song goes though...

Do not do a remix!!
Just mix the song however you see fit.

dont rearrange it, dont add parts, etc.

Well,

I'm a big metal fan, but not a big fan of the vocal stylings of this variety. That being said, I kinda tucked the vocals in the background, and found this neat free plugin called "girl scout"....it makes all vocals sound like a young girl sweetly singing. I hope that doesn't violate the rules.

This is a real rough mix, but I thought I'd throw it up and see what you guys think. I've been super busy, so it's only been a few minutes here and there, and I won't get to work on it anymore until the end of the month.

Let me know what you think. (you have to crank it up a bit, the volume is a bit low)

here's what I've got so far, I think it's too mid rangy

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1830&alid=476

I'm going to give it a rest and concentrate on the bass and kick when I get back to it, although it's probably full of all kinds of other problems.

edit: btw, I'm way out of genre here :), but this song rips. The guitar solo is absolutely brilliant.

The two things you intend to focus on are the two things that need to be focused on from what i just heard.

Humble thanx for the guitar compliment Doug.

I’m downloading the files today. I’ll give it a shot though I must admit this is my cup of tea in the music style. Its about all i listen to feel the intimidating vibes burn your flesh and the voice of the screaming 5 year old in the background I’m gonna win I’m gonna win j/k ill do my best

i love the mix contests this really helps you see where you are in mixing and where you could or are gonna be in the future props to who ever came up with this idea

I've downloaded the tracks after a 9 hour stint on a dial-up.

Reminds me of Diana Krall...
