Public Mix Contest #12!!!!!!!!!!!!

WELL DONE GUYS!!!!!!

FWIW - My pick of the bunch was also Xstatic, start to finish his mix was my favourite. I also very much like Farview's except for his vocal mix, which was different but not necessarily better.

Great work from all of you guys, I now have to decide whether to volunteer to judge the next one (and not end up pulling out) or whether I'm going in as an entrant for the first time ... with the extreme risk of being embarrassed!!!!

So, Xstatic - bearing in mind the amount of high-end gear you have - what are you going to do with your prize? :D:D

Re: volume, after I finished my scores I went back and had a look at each mix's RMS. The top entries were all between -11 and -14, which seems appropriate for the style. There were good mixes down to -16. There were a few too quiet entries, one I think was -20, but that mix had some other issues. The loudest entry was -8 and I don't believe that rose above the middle of the pack. In fact I seem to recall it had about 140 overs!

In summary, I don't think that there was much correlation between volume and final score, except for those outliers.

What service would i use to send this compressor to Finland??
Im in the US.

Fed-EX? UPS? lemme know, ive never mailed anything that far before. :o

Also, anybody know what happened to Sonixx's page for the entries???

exactly, my comments on volume levels of overall mixes had nothing to do with how I scored...just so everyone knows that.

I've used UPS or FEDEX (one or the other) to send to Sweden in the past. So if you end up at the post office, you'll definitely be able to use one of the two. :)

Xstatic is in Finland? I never knew that!! :confused:

Any of the big companies will do it. Stuff that's been sent to me from the States has come via all sorts of companies ... but they've all been fine! :)

i think we weren't sure if he had a final or not. I downloaded everything that was on Sonixx's site and didn't see his there.

the last post mshilarious found of his was #567 and it was unclear if he was done or just asking for some reviews on it. Sorry Kainz if that was your final mix :confused: :o :( :)
 
Well, thanks all. Chris, cool tune, and it should have been easier to get a better mix than I wound up with... :o I think I personally tried to do too much to it, and kind of ruined it. Oh, well.

And judges, thanks a bunch. After just what listening I did, it would have been very hard to pick out some subtleties. I can only imagine after listening several more times, how confusing some of it might have gotten. Thanks again, all. A great learning experience, once again.
 
Hmm. I got top 2 right, but after that my score sheet was pretty different from the final. My strategy was to focus more on determining the correct prize winners, so I guess I accomplished that lol. Difficult contest to judge, I think the overall quality of the mixes have just been getting better and better, which is the whole point.

You're welcome :D.
The hardest part was juggling not listening to too many entries in one sitting, and trying to keep consistent standards across different listening sessions.

And yeah i guess ill use fed-ex.

Funny....the cost of the shipping will probably be more than the compressor itself! :p :D :eek:
