All this is my final entry. Much thanks to all who listened and provided advice. At this point the computer is giving up on this song more than I am. :) So I have to call it a day. :)

I had to mix this one in the cans because I didn't want to bring my monitors to college, so I'm going to need some feedback before I make it final. It sounds good to me, but like I said, I've only been able to listen to it through three sources, all using headphones.

I like the song though, I was humming the main vocal parts at breakfast this morning, and you've got one hell of a scream. The dude from Opeth would be proud.

edit: I think I need to turn the vocals in the "I hold the last straw..." part up after listening to it a few times.

Only differences are some different compression and EQ settings; got more life out of the guitars, and it slid the overhead bashiness back a bit.


Good luck, everyone!!!! I've heard a lot of amazing ideas and treatments here!! And boy, have I learned a TON!! I will be applying things I picked up in this exercise into EVERY recording I do going forward. Thanks a TON for Chris Finster and Garuda's Mission for making these tracks available for the contest, and for tolerating our bleating and whining about everything. It takes thick skin to allow others to so openly microscope, critique, massage, and occasionally butcher your fine work. You are to be greatly honored for this.

I must confess, that my own mix out of the equation, I think Daunt's is the most balanced and defined, and is my favorite. It was fascinating to see what points of emphasis people chose, and what tracks people chose to use, leave out, alter, etc. Lots of great ideas, some unusual choices.

What a treat this was. Whoever wins this, EARNED it!!! :D

NY,

On my monitors, it's a little "wuffly" in the low mids and upper highs, and missing a bit in the top end, not much air under it; except the ride cymbal, which has a clearly defined space. Balance-wise, it's pretty solid. I might have gone after the pitchiness in the vox, since you used almost all of it... Master level could have probably been pushed harder...

Where in Upstate NY? I'm a Syracuse native... :)

My final is on sonixx sites. Thanks for doing this, sonixx.
And thanks to all the judges. This might be a tough one to mix, as so many of the entries sounded very good. Good luck guys.

guess im gonna have to make my last try my final. My fiancee had surgery yesterday and looks like im gonna be staying with her longer than I thought so I wont be home to post my latest work. Oh well...I think my latest is better but its all good...dont think I had a shot at 1st anyway...:p
