Maybe so, but when do I have to have this done??

As far as I know XFinsterX hasn't declared deadline yet - read the first post.

Ive spent some time mixing this. I just open it when i need a breaking from mixing my other stuff. I think im about ready to submit something but im going to wait until i get my woofer replaced on my right channel monitor before i do.

I ended up mixing in a poppier sounding snare into the mix just to give it some punch but i didnt completely sample replace. Infact only 16% is sample and i just felt that was enough to give it the sound i was looking for.

Now the whole mix is sounding much better. Some of the cymbals sound a little funny to me. There one in there that just really sounds like the top end is rolled off and its just got this murk sound to it. Cut the ride mic out completely too because it was picking up other cymbals (especially that murky one) just as much as it was picking up the ride. Didnt use bottom toms or sampled kick and snare.

Havnt decided what to do with the vocals yet. Lots of options and lots of stuff going on. Dont know if i should use the majority of it or lighten up on it. Everything else is up to some extent. A little of everything.

HOLA guys
It took me 3 hours to mix the song just today...
I changed the kick and snare to something more punchy
so it means the kick and snare tracks are now samples , not the real ones,
but with the same rythm....

Here it its, my first attempt.....

anyway, enough disclaimers...rip it apart.

let me know if there are any download problems.

Snare is hot although I like the tone, but vocals could stand some air. Overall, low-mids are muddy.

The guitars are there but I don't think the vocals are yet-mostly balance issues on harmony parts. The low end is not very present, it needs attention too. Some of the cymbals sound very tinny, like around 2:20.

Here's take two. There was one vocal harmony that was minor second that was driving me NUTS. I raised it up a step. It sounds a little funny. I'm sure you'll find it. The vocals don't seem to be meshing with the music as much as I'd like. I am liking my mix a lot right now, though.

Please let me know what you think.

EDIT: The kick might be jutting out a bit too much. Eh.

Yeah, the kick and bass are doing strange things in my sub. What is your monitoring setup?

Other than, I like. Verb the harmony vocals a little harder than the lead vocal or something, so it doesn't sound like the same guy in the same room singing two parts.

So.... :p

I tweaked the drums and bass and some other things. How about now? Finster, do you find the vocals any better? Any ideas? How is the overall balance? I think I did leave those vocals a tad too low... opinions?

Stick a fork in that one baby . . .

It's done!

OK, from 2:26 you need to pick which vocal is the lead.

The lo-fi intro is cool . . . I'm guessing you liked the bottom tom tracks :) Slightly boxy . . . there are some troublesome hi-mids on the drums, especially the kick. Backing vocals are buried too deep. Bring up the screamo parts.

Overall the desperation in the lead vocal stands out on your entry, it has a very different immediacy. Best use of the harpischord track so far too!

I won't be attempting this one, but the song is really cool. Nice work.

My monitors are KRK RP8s. I don't have a sub or anything. I'm not going to lie, I did a bunch of this on phones. I can't pump up the monitors late at night when my parents are asleep.

I'll take another stab at it tomorrow.

Ditto for round two. I worked on the level balance a bit and added a bit of effects to the harmony voices to try to give them a big sound like Yes gets once in awhile on their vocals. Played with the bottom end a bit, tweaked on the bass guitar. And I'm not sure I'm happy with the drums yet. All comments welcome unless negative and then I'll have to shoot somebody. ;)

Yeah, I took a break from it and had another listen with fresh ears while I was in the car today. Even my girlfriend looked like someone was holding a small turd under her nose when she said "is this what you've been working on?" :o

here is my first attempt. I havent had much time to work on it. I pretty much just set levels a couple of days ago and didnt get time to start turning knobs till this morning.
