i crap

i cant import Aiff files to my Sonar 4
Is anybody have the same problem with me?

I'm having the same problem. Winamp will play the files, but sonar won't import them. Sonar complains it's not compatible. I can't even convert them with dbPoweramp, it complains it can't open them. I've tried downloading it half a dozen times and unextracting them with several programs. No luck.

Wow!! My CPU never went to 20% before just playing raw tracks!!! And I NEVER saw my HD usage indicator come up off zero!!! I think my previous biggest project had "only" 26 tracks.... :D

I'm afraid to see what happens w/ a bunch of plugs!!!!

I'll probably reduce the track count to about 35, and still have plenty of sound to work with.....

Might be time for a computer upgrade... I've only got an Athlon 1.6 Ghz w/ 512 Mb RAM.... separate audio/application hard drives....

well...I hope everyone was able to get the files to work. I was told that I had unlimited storage and bandwith and all...but after questioning the guy who set all this up for me, I found that I only have 512mb of storage...not enough to host the files which is why I kept getting the error. I had decided to split it into 2 zip files, one for percussion and one for the rest of the song. the percussion uploaded fine but not enough room for the rest. I am going to check on upgrading my account...Im sure it wont be of any help for the contest since most people already have the files. Sorry to have offered and not be able to pull through...maybe for the next one...

I don't think I even used that many for this mix. :)

alright, here's my first hack at it. after re-listening right before posting, I'm hearing some bass problems, and I'm thinking the snare is a little machine-gunnish.

anyway, enough disclaimers...rip it apart.

let me know if there are any download problems.

xstatic- I really like the bass. I was afraid to make it too plucky...but it really works. I'm digging it. The only thing I hear is that the high hat seems a little overpowering during the intro...takes away from the attack on the snare a bit.

Cymbals have air, but not much else does. Vocal tracks are fighting each other, try to integrate them better. Watch the levels on vocals--the screamo parts are lower than the following sung parts.

Yeah, like I said, I wasn't happy with the drum mix. I reworked it a bit this evening. And I found a vocal track that I thought I had eliminated but hadn't and it was really messing things up. And I didn't even notice the screaming parts being lower until you pointed it out. Thanks! Not that I wouldn't have noticed it eventually but that's what I get for mixing first thing in the morning. Hell, I'd only had one pot of coffee before I started mixing!!!

Thanks for the tips!

If they play in Winamp, why would you download them 6 times?!?!?!?????

Sonar 4 supports aiff files - I would contact Sonar customer support, and see what's up.

Here's take two. There was one vocal harmony that was minor second that was driving me NUTS. I raised it up a step. It sounds a little funny. I'm sure you'll find it. The vocals don't seem to be meshing with the music as much as I'd like. I am liking my mix a lot right now, though.

Please let me know what you think.

EDIT: The kick might be jutting out a bit too much. Eh.

The vocals don't mesh because the music is over compressed. Most of the dynamics have been squashed out. There is also a low end rumble that needs to be tamed. I think your first mix sounded better than this one. :)

So.... :p

I tweaked the drums and bass and some other things. How about now? Finster, do you find the vocals any better? Any ideas? How is the overall balance? I think I did leave those vocals a tad too low... opinions?

The mp3 is here

Reviews/Opinions:

Geet73:
Hmh.. kick seems to be rather dominating. Try to give it a bit more definition and bottom. Now it somewhat maskes/makes the low end rather muddy. I would also maby add a bit more definition to the bass - I mean I do hear it etc. but it sounds a bit too "round" for me (thou this is basically just a personal thingy), tweaking the kick might help the bass too. Also as you mentioned vocals don't sit very well. Need to tweak those a bit more.

vanbas2:
What is that strange hiss? - try to get rid of it, it is rather disturbing. Also your bass guitar is really boomy (eg. 1:45). Your kick is somewhat unique sounding - not in a bad way thou. I would maby add a bit more power in it. You need to trim/automate those vocals too (as Finster said, especially that "...awaaaaaaaaaayyy"). Otherwise vocals sit rather nice. Also check that hat volume at 2:08 - I think it is a tad too loud.

SidGuatama:
I think you need to tweak the bass. It is a bit too massive. Also I would like to hear bigger and more aggressive guitars. The kick is quite masking also - it makes the lowend definition muddy (especially when combined with that bass). Snare might be a bit too prominent too - it steps over the vocals. Vocals are quite ok - thou I would like to hear a bit more aggressive screaming. Overall the mix is somewhat dull (the lowend might be masking the highs -> get it in order and it solves alot problems.)

I'll do some others too when I have some time

EDIT: Link works again. I had some filenaming problems lol :o

One of the tracks for the bass is just clicky and stuff. I can hear it alright, but that may just be me. I need to figure out how to get those vocals in there better. Thanks.

Thanks Ryan...
You're welcome. :)

thanks for the input Kainz. My monitors are a bit bass weak, so I often end up over-compensating. I'm not able to get your new mix to download.

Good lord!!!! I spend t 2 hours on it last night and haven't even loaded tom-toms yet!!!!!
