Well, I cant get my file to be accepted by NL5's server.

Says the following: The file you attempted to upload is not recognized as an mp3 file
Please upload only mp3 files. Type attempted: application/octet-stream

I know its an MP3, 256k, 16-bit... all that jazz.

Help?

Are you using IE, or Safari?

Are you behind a corporate or university firewall?

Super pickin on this tune...
This an awesome stack of tracks. I just finished the rythym section and the keys. never had over 22 tracks before here at home. This highly educational. My lil Athlon is a huffin n puffin but it looks like she`ll make it. :) My head hurts and I need a blowjob now. :p

I can possibly meet the deadline, give or take a few weeks :D

Allrite... Did some tweaks and gave it a decent mastering (well as "decent" as I can hehe).

How about now? Finster any better vocals? Anything else?

Just click here

EDIT: Updated the song to a tad brighter version.

Allrite, I'll wait :)

How do you like the vocals in my mix? I think I might have made them tad too "dark". Allso the mastering might have been a bit too bass heavy. Seems somewhat muddy around 250hz?

Anybody agree?

Dont "Master it" at all.

Homebake mastering usually just ruins mixes in my experience anyways.

Great job with the vox!
Youre getting those close to done.

The drums.....where did they go?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I'm not even trying to give it a "proper master". All I did was a little EQ (really a little, around 2db at most). I ran it also through a limiter - again very subtle (max cut was around 1-2db).

Your Draft:

Nice one. I would maby add some more "punch" to the kick. Also guitar "oomphs" throught quite nastily couple of times - no biggie. I'm not so fond of those bass' string "scratching" (eg. right at the beginning), but that is just my opinion. Vocals are nice.

Overall it could use some 3D depth (thou mastering will no doubt help). Also I would like to hear a bit more aggressive drums - they are somewhat "soft" and sizziling.. or something :D

I was very criticizing here - IMO the mix is definitely in the "good" side and very well in balace. Can't wait to hear draft 2 :)

Thanks - I gather the vox are better this time :)

Drums.. they are there. You would like to hear more what? Snare? Overhead?
It is always problematic when mixing something like this (at least for me). I mean I want to have big guitars -> the drums has to shrink. Or then really nice and full drums -> no room for guitars. I haven't learnt a way to have them both.. yet... :p

I see what you mean about the kick drum and the clicky bass.

The rest ill chaulk up to personal preferences.

Thanks Kainz.

Have a good day! :)

Well Kainz and finster, listened to both your takes, and man, this thing is getting good. Gives me a bunch more to think about. Both nice versions, with slightly different takes on them. Now, I just need to meld some of this together. Great job, both of you. Wish I had some good critique for you, but it's sounding way better than mine, so I'm stuck for now.

Ok, my first stab....
Circle

this is pretty dry....No reverb or delay. Just a bit of eq. Pretty bass heavy, but sounded good at the time. And if you don't like it......I'm paying 7string big bucks to go on a manhunt.......
Im gona be brave and be honest. :o
Sounds good, but it seems to be lacking some energy and the vox are a bit upfront. Just my 2 pennys though.

Im just boosting the levels a little after mixing. I dont think this song really needs mastered since it is so easy to mix because of the decent tracks.

Your mix sounds good Finster. Although I feel the vocals take away from the power of the guitars. and this song wants powerfull guitars. :D

Shoot, Eck, I'll take your 2 pennies. No need to be brave, just honest. :D
Good criticism is what we are all here for. Thanks. I think I left out some peices, that I need to figure out how to work in. That's probably where the mix went bad.
Thanks again.

I think you did a much better job with the second one. Drums are still a bit loud, but they do sound very good. No distortion on them. Mine are not so clear. Good job there. Only real comment I might have, is some of the vocals are still a little quiet in this mix, but it could just be the loud drums are hiding some of the quieter vocals. I can make them out, but just barely. All in all, very strong. And this is just me trying to pick the tune apart a bit. If I heard it this way just for listening pleasure, it would be a great tune.
Ed

Thanks alot Dogman.
Yeah I think you are right about the vocals being a little hidden at times.
Although I dont think the drums are too loud. Im gonna try and fix the vox without changing the drums, but if I cant get the vox right then ill maybe bring the drums down a tad.
Cheers.
