I actually cant recall anything youve ever recorded.
I wouldnt have any problem with that, as long as the song is good, and you put up the prizes! ;) :D

-Finster

:D Truth is, my stuff isn't that interesting. Mostly it's live performances where I do sound and send a feed to my HD24. It isn't terribly challenging to mix, other than fixing my occasional screw-up :o

The DI bass tracks are out of phase with the mic'ed tracks BTW.
Youll need to nudge the DI tracks forward a tad to put them into phase.

-Finster

While we're on the subject of phase, were the bottom tom mics phase flipped when recording? It sounds like the snare bottom was flipped during recording, but to me the toms tracks sound better if I flip the phase on the bottom mics.

Oh yeah, PMC12 at last!

And what a song ;)

This type of music is as far from my style of music as it possbily cold be! (being a jazz/blues musician myself)

But anyway I like mixing it and here is my first rought try:Kainz' PMC12 beta 1

And I must say these tracks are hands down the best redorded tracks I'v ever mixed. It is a plain joy to work with these.

Allthou I'm having some problems with the vocals and their tune(s). Also could someone (finster?) tell me if I got all those tracks like they should be? They were so numerous and not edited that I'm not so sure if I got them right :p
Don't want to start going too "deep in there" unless I'm sure I have them/the song generally right.

Oh and I didn't automate etc. anything yet.. Just really really rough one. Eg. voxes have alot(!) work to do with...

Yep phase was surely flipped bro.

However, if it sounds good to skip the bottom mic then do so.

This link is also broken, unless it's just me.

Its not just you man...I started uploading before bed last night and when I got up this morning, it still have a few hours to go. I just let it continue to upload when I left for work. I got home to an error message. Sorry...I have just started to re-upload. I hate that this is taking so long. Like I said, I dont know if its my connection or the server but it is taking forever.

So far its been the drums that have been my big issue. The snare is just too thick and i dont like adding much high end to it. It seems to me like the drummer should have used a tighter snapper snare. Its just really meaty and hard to cut through. Im working on it though.

Ive never seen that many options with bass tracks. I was expecting those kind of options on the Guitar but thats ok.

Havnt even touched vocals yet...

So far its been pretty fun though.

Who is your webhost? If your on a low cost "unlimited bandwidth" deal, they usually cap your pipe REALLY damn small.

I really, really like this song. Heh.

I'll post my first mix in a bit. I spent an hour or two on it last night.

I just talked to the guy who set up the account for me. I didnt ask him who the webhost is but he said that there is no cap on the upload speed and that the speed is determined by my connection to the internet. I have a 100mbps cable connection. I guess I need to compile a list of questions to ask him and call back.

It just donned on me ECK.
Take and paste that chorus into the intro, and see if you like it.
It worked well n my rough mix i did.
It seemed to make the tune pop out better.
But its your perogative.

Bass needs better definition.
The DI bass tracks are out of phase with the mic'ed tracks BTW.
Youll need to nudge the DI tracks forward a tad to put them into phase.
Or you can opt to use just the mic'ed, or just the DI, but not both.
The best combo ive got so far is using both roy basses and a tad of 57 1.
No di at all.

Anyways good rough starter man.

Cheers Finster, ill take that in mind for defo. The lo end is a hard one for me since im using headphones.
Im sure I checked everything for phase issues but I must check that again.
I think another problem is that the kick drum is over powering the mix at times. The parts when it is the rapid kick. Not sure if its EQ or just volume.
The Royer is real nice on the bass guitar by the way. Loads of bottom end but not muffled muddy bottom end. Brilliant tracking.
I see someone else took the keyboard part at the end out also. It just doesnt seem to fit right to me.

Have you tried just using the 57 and the sn bottom?

The m201 is for beef Danny, if you dont like it you dont need to use it.

You need to trim off the trailing vocals at the end of verse 1.

"So far awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!"

That needs to be trimmed so it dosent interfere with the hooks vocal part.

Also imo the spread out vocal thing is WAY distracting.
But whatever flaots your boat....

-Kainz.

i still cant get the files to work im using sonar 4 producer. it comes up with a direct x error when i import the .aiff. so i coverted them to .wav with nero and wavelab and still i get the same thing. it will import other wavs just not these ones. any ideas guys and gals?

Hey,

I know its muted. I have alot of the extra stuff muted. I track the same way with alot of options. I just mean it doesnt seem tight enough to me. Im just looking for a poppier sound i guess and its just really round and fat. When i add highs to it or undersnare it makes it sound too thin.

Ill figure it out though. Thats just the only thing ive been fighting with.

perhaps replace it with a poppy snare sample then...

ive got a couple great ones if needed.

The snare took me a few attempts to get what I was happy with. Remember to play with the lo mids. That can take out some of the fattness without making it thin and it should cut through better.

Hmm.....I'm always looking for modern, poppy snare samples. Do you have any uploaded? :D

I love that Deftones snare also the Chevelle snare off the first album.

Well, I cant get my file to be accepted by NL5's server.

Says the following: The file you attempted to upload is not recognized as an mp3 file
Please upload only mp3 files. Type attempted: application/octet-stream

I know its an MP3, 256k, 16-bit... all that jazz.

Help?
