PT 8 Accessing lower frequencies for kick drum

Hello everybody,

So I've been dabbling with recording one of my favorite songs that I have written, and it is a somewhat funky song so I'm using the drum program to put in the Urban Beat preset of the Xpand plug in. Everything sounds great, but when I have the kick drum going, the low frequencies seem to just be coming out of my computer's top speakers, and not the bass speaker on the floor, like many rap songs do making it loud. When I try turning up the song, the low frequency kick drum is barely audible from the bass speaker but from my desk speakers the kick drum becomes distorted and sounds terrible. I was wondering how I would get the kick drum to be able to run through my bass speaker for my computer speakers?

Thanks, Nick

computer top speaker=monitors or "mains"
bass speaker=subwoofer

I'm guessing this is what you're referring to?
What speakers and interface do you have and how are they setup? Give us exactly how you have everything plugged in, routed in PT, etc.

Well when I am listening to the play back right now I plugged the Harman/Kardon computer speakers directly into the Mbox2 Mini's main output. I think that is what you're asking.

well, how is everything hooked up. We need specifics.

for example
"Mbox out 1-2 via 1/4 cable to the HK speakers inputs (which model??)"

how does it get to the sub?
Does the sub already work with other material that isn't played back through PT? Most likely your problem is the sub isn't receiving an audio signal from PT or from your HK speaker/amp. The sub needs a copy of whatever you're sending to your speakers.

Yes it's the mbox out 1-2 with a 1/8 cable to the HK speakers input. And yes the sub does work for other songs that are not PT's playback, and i've even tried bouncing the file and playing it with window's media player and still not very much in the sub woofer at all. I dont think its a problem with the connections or speakers I think its a problem with Pro Tool's MIDI drum program not creating these lower frequencies.
