Psychotropically Derivative Jangling Guitar Thing sans vocal or melody

I laid down some test runs yesterday. A few pretty busy, a few simple. I'm leaning towards more simple with some minor flairs thrown in. Since there's no vocal cadence or melody yet, I figure simple would probably be safer. And simple is usually better.

The attached link will allow you to download a 320 MP3 of a thing I've been worked on today after a lapse of a couple of months.

The backing, (that is all it is at this stge: I have the lyrics but Terry hasn't come up with a melody & seems to have deemed himself incommunicado for the last couple of months), is constructed from quite a few guitar tracks, some of which are heavily effected stereo things others of which are almost untreated.
Some of the guitar tracks were recorded DI or through the FX 500 with my Bruno Royal Artist and others were recorded micing a Marshal Super Bass MkII & a tiny little Pignose.
A couple of tracks were recorded with a no name AU$80 delivered telecaster copy.
The drums are a Roland TR505.
The percussion, aside from the kit, is real.
The tambourine needs to be reduced in the 1st half I THINK.
Today I added a stereo guitar track to the chorus (?) that used an almost untweaked effect Called Horror House from a Yamaha FX 500.
I also bumped the alien synthesque lines up a little in the quieter passage, (the lines are actually from a treated guitar nut they sound a little synthetic).
I'd love to treat the snare throughout like I did the intro thwacks but can't as the kit was recorded in simple stereo.
Now, to the point! Any comments, suggestions, observations would be appreciated and almost certainly acted upong except for the ubiquitous GFYS one.

Coolness. Retro. Guitar on the left side is pitchy, or chorused too hard. I agree about the tambo coming down just a tad. Nice chordal movement. I agree with other comment that you've found places in the field for everything, no small feat for how dense this is. I think it's held together by virtue of the drums being relatively dry compared to the rest, oddly enough. Like the string the rock candy forms on. Vocals will sit well in this mix if placed just to the right of center, like 5-10 degrees.

I see now that the Gerg is going to drum live for you. I can't wait to hear how that transforms this. I suspect it'll pick up tons of groove, but perhaps might lose some of the "relentlessness" it currently has. Should be cool to hear!

Greg,
I'll leave decisions re percussion arrangements to you - I trust your ear.
Phil/Llarion,
Thanks for the detailed response. When you say gtr on the L do you mean the 1st one to be panned there & stay there or another at a particular point in time?
I love the lolly analogy! I've noted your reference to sitting the vox off centre. Ta, that could, potentially, save me tearing some hair out at a later point.
there is a degree of relentlessness about this isn't there! Tonally, rhythmically and from a limited aesthetic too!

I did indeed mean the first one I heard... It's not severe, though...

I'm nothing if not analogy-laden... :)

Sounding good ray!

Seems like you've cleaned up the intro to this some since the last presentation. The stronger guitar tracks seem to take over sooner. There is good balance between the elements here. You've taken lots of sounds that would be prone to trampling one another and carved out a decent amount of space for each. Nice job.

I did go back and listen to Sewersong for a possible taste of what is to come with the drums. Cool. I really want to hear this with any new additions.
