Wanted to try something a bit different from my last effort(Glenn Campbell cover..) this is a bit of music I wrote to go with some lyrics by a friend of mine...going for a kind of surreal, psychedelics vibe....very early in the game here, I have a spot for some sort of instrumental/solo thing about 3/4 way thru....not sure if I will use guitar or synth , or maybe something else...also thinking about inserting a longer gap between verses...just thought it would be good to get some early feedback as I take a break from working on this and let it stew for awhile....

In a weird way, starts off with instrumentation similar to something you would hear from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, which I personally love as a band.

Not a fan of the vocal lines. Just sounds off.

Otherwise, I like the actual music itself, but it does get a little repetetive after a while. I'd like to hear you change it up from a 4/4 pulse within the song just to show what you can do!

Nice start though!

The vox are fine just a bit to far forward in the mix.
The lyric & vocal style suite the title.
Nice little metallic/industrial edge to this...there is a need for a dynamic change at some stage - perhaps the solo will provide it or you could do some soft/loud verse to chorus things.
An inserted gap might work in a bridge kind of way - some thing to add that dynamic needed?
Good work so far !!!!

I think this is a pretty balanced mix. Everything is sitting in its own space for the most part. Interesting take on the lead vox, almost spoken word, but they follow a melody line. I like the soft attack on the git. I'm losing the kick a little bit.

This is kinda like theater instead of straight forward music. Could you post the lyrics? I think they would be nice to follow during the spin.

Hi Solaris, thanks for the comments...not familer with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, but checked out there official site and was very interesting! Vocals are a weak point for me,but something I really would like to get better at...I suppose they are kind of wandering in and out of key :p...agree about the music, I like the idea of a change up in the meter to something kinda "off" as opposed to the straight 4/4...I usually rush on my songs but want to take my time a bit and develop this one..thanks for the ideas, appreciate the feedback!

Hey Ray, whats up? Yeah, I think adding the gap between verse's may help break up the monotony of the song a bit...Have tried a few different things on the "solo" part, but nothing that I have been happy with..I have used the same kind of chord progression for my last couple of songs for the guitar solo parts, so I'm afraid it's getting a bit ruttish and uninspiring to jam over...looking at completely changing the feel/progression of that part with the thought of also changing up the time sig as well to something wacky like 7/4 for a few bars ala Pink Floyd Money....Interesting on the vox as for so long I have had them buried and dripping in verb :o going to retrack the lead vox and will look into the levels...
Thanks as always for the feedback...I appreciate it!

Hi Xeries....I am at work right now, but will post the lyrics when I get home...they are by a friend who I like to collab with from time to time...I can dig the theater vibe...I kinda had the feeling of something off of Queen2 or early Genesis like Nursery Cryme, when doing the music....I don't like the kick much either, will work on it! Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds pretty cool Queepy. Not my favorite Queepy tune, but it definitely jives with your usual stuff while still being different. I don't have any comment on the song structure or anything because you said it's not finished. The mix sounds pretty good. I even like the heavy duty triple tracking of the vocals. It's kind of hard to make out the words though. Keep messing with it. Sounds cool.

Nice tune Queepy kinda gives me a Dream theater feel at first.
Exiting theatricks on the vox, kinda in the style of VDGG:cool:

Love the time sig:cool:

the mix sounds good to me, I like the effects on the vox

Cool, weird song, queepy. Nice job!

I think the vocal 'sound' fits the vocal 'style'--if that makes any sense.

It seems like both the kick and the bass could use more presence/attack. But, I was listening on headphones.

Very "modern" sounding song - brings to mind some theatre stuff and maybe Zappa with its end of line phrasings. I think the mix sounds pretty sweet. Let it gel and fiddle with a break later on....

Thanks for listening Greg, I hope your talking about the chorus part as being "triple tracked" and not the lead vox, as I tried to have the lead vox pretty dry and up front...the chorus part does have many tracks...just want to make sure I'm hearing the same thing as the listeners....

Thanks Nak...can dig the VDGG comparison! On a side note, me and a few buddies are road tripping to a Progfest this spring that features amongst other acts, Gong(with Steve Hillage!!), Steve Hillage solo, and Van Der Graff Generator....Its called Nearfest.:http://www.nearfest.com/ Thanks for checking out my tune!

Thanks Incanus, cool and weird is definitely something I can dig:p! Agree about the bass and kick...addressing it in the mix I'm going to upload in a few minutes...Thanks for the listen!

Hey Ido, definitely going for a more theatrical type vibe here, so that's cool you picked that up...sitting on it a few days definitely helped clear my head and give me some new ideas...gong to post a new mix in a sec....thanks for listening and the feedback...appreciate it as always!

Yeah the new mix is very cool. The bass sounds awesome, but there's some weirdness during the section where I assume the solo will go. Maybe it's intentional, but it sounds kind of choppy between the changes like that section was spliced together. Maybe it's the phasey bass attack or something.

And yeah I was talking about the chorus mega tracking. Sounds great. This new mix seems to be cleaner than the other one. I can make out the words better.

Thanks Greg...about the bass, I used my Rickenbacker, and I wanteds to get a real clangy "lead bass" Chris Squire/John Entwistle type vibe,so I pumped up some upper freq's ..played with a bass pick, and was really playing hard...I do think I need to tame it down a bit....

Original and freaky as ever, Queep :)
DON'T CHANGE THOSE VOCALS!
They're absolutely original and give the song its character. Recording sounds fine to me and the song has a nice kind of sleazy groove to it. You are one talented musician and I love your stuff!

Joey :):):):)

Thanks Joey, humbled by your comments, really appreciate it man! I think I am getting better at the vocal "sound" of my recordings...finally getting away from the pseudo Phil Spector reverb/wall of sound vocal thing I've had going on since I started doing this :o....

Such a groovy tune, Queep, I just love that chorus. And the guitar solo fits it like a glove....:D
Can you post the lyrics, they're really freaky.
Great original stuff! :):)
