Proximity effect when recording acoustic guitar?

I'm well aware of proximity effect recording vocals, what about when reocrding acoustic guitar? Would using an SM57, or any typical condensor mix @ 6" give any proximity effect? I haven't noticed any big difference comparing 6" to 12".
 
Proximity effect will be exhibited by any directional microphone, whether it is a dynamic mic or condenser.

Judging by the data sheet, the SM57 rolls off lower frequencies which may to some extent counteract the proximity effect?
 
You're probably well aware, but some mics counter proximity effect by design.
I'm thinking of Electrovoice dynamic mics with Variable-D, and AKG dynamic mics with whatever the equivalent was. I can't remember just now.

There are probably others.
 
But would there be much of a proximity effect change from 12" to 6"? I'm thinking that you need to get really close (3" or less) to notice it on most mics, no?

Yes, I should think so. Much more dramatic the closer you get.
 
I'm always rolling the low end off acoustic guitars anyway... not because of proximity effect but just because there's usually too much bass there for a mixed in instrument. But that's using condensers... SM57 I can't imagine it being too much of an issue, depending upon how you place it...

Looks like a bit more diff between 4 - 8" and 9 - 12", but the effect is extending out well past that. Part of what you're seeing might be due to ac guitar, voice, not much content down below a hundred where it's most prominent?

Ya know I just thought of another thing. Even when there is low content to compare (bass cab for example) unless you were outside perhaps, as you move the mic out away further -maybe compensated for the new level, the room's response might tend to hold that low end up at the mic. In other words I wonder if in our (smaller?) spaces we would get that fall off out at 3' like is shown on the DPA plot.
