Protools CPU usage question

I have this problem with protools LE I can't seem to figure out. On some of the sessions my cpu usage will shoot drastically up and down. Even when I only have 7 plug ins running it will shoot way up and down which prevents me from inserting more plugs. This problem only occurs on some sessions. In some sessions I can have as many as 45 waves plugs (including 2 verbs) and not have a problem. I don't get why this problem only occurs in some sessions and not others.

Here are my specs:
P4 2.4ghz
845 chipset
1gig ddr 2700 333 ram
80 gig system drive
120 gig audio drive (on the same cable as the cd burner)
 
Does it always occur in the same sessions?

Does it always occur in the same place in those sessions?

My first guess is that it has to do with a sudden increase in plugin load- such as when an aux bus with a couple plugs goes from having no audio to audio. Seems to affect aux with several tracks feeding it because PT has to mix the feed tracks AND process the input with plugs in real time.

Just a guess, though. What is going on in the sessions when the CPU spikes?
