there are some workarounds, like installing a second card or using the Refuse software. But this seems to be total integration, like having Reason inside Protools.
Also Rewire 2 can be used for other apps, and it's quite powerfull. I guess you could use vst plugins with protools with this scheme.
Also, it makes a statement on how Digidesign is considering a more open platform.

well i use pipeline, which is a virtual midi port. to link protools and reason. I can sync the midi clock and transport for both of them. delay owns me thou. Althou you do need a 2nd card. to go back from reason to protools. Which I do by spdif.
I'm all for less delay if that is what rewire offers!
