Corse not... But, what is up SPA's sleeve is FAR more industry revolutionizing than this current one... We're talking Godzilla like!!! ;)
Cool,

That's what I like hearing. So you're the one who's gotten a peak.

So it's something that will have to be clandestine until it hits the street?

If it's something that is Godzilla like, I hope it's something he can get a patent on and subsequently thumb his nose at all the manufacturers who have tried to steal his designs over the years.

alan, someone else mentioned a pair of SD condensors? is this in the plan for SP?

I was thinking a pair that hit the 5-600 dollar price point would be cool...

something that bridged the gap between something like the NT5s, and the KM184s..

If it comes from Stephen you can bet it's not going to be be building any bridges. It will be in a class by itself.

Studio Project Gents,

Is their anything else on the drawing board from Stephen right now? Can we have a peek?

Taylor,

There are three pattern mic planned, sub micron models that will be available, but all in time. The Stephen Paul range will also look at very high end electronics as well, so we have our minds open and will have more stuff coming.

Sounds great Alan. A lot of us are really looking forward to the release of the new mic. I'm looking around for which of my possessions I can sell to get one. :( :)

D'ya think you might want to HEAR the SP mic before deciding what's better?

Just a thought...

Umm. I never said one was better than the other.

At $1500, I would probably settle for the U195, IF I was going to spend in the $1,000 range.

I know few "home recording" folks who can even spend $1500 on one mic. But I'm not exactly clear on what market the SP line of mics will be geared towards.

I'm thinking a kidney. What the hell, I have two.:D

Why? Unless it's too early to reveal specifics on the mic.

So, you're still buying mics based on specs instead of how they actually sound? :p

But seriously, here's a guy (Stephen Paul) who in his whole life has never compromised an iota of his high standards of technical excellence nor his personal integrity no matter how much money was or wasn't at stake.

If he says this mic will destroy any mic currently being manufactured, I would tend to at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

So if you're planning on rushing out right now and buying a U195, I wouldn't recommend it. After Stephen's mic hits the streets, the consumer demand for a lot of the other large diaphragm mics around that price point might dry up to the point where you might be able to get two or three U195's on e-bay for your $1500.

And even then, you might end up wishing you just had one of Stephen's instead!

Yeah, I know Stephen has other things in the works that we might get a peek of here and there once the time comes. The one I'm talking about, we certainly won't get a peek of and NONE of us will probably EVER see it in our little studio once released! :(

I hope I'm wrong though!

MrZekeMan and Track Rat, I'm on the same page as you guys...

I would say they are geared toward anyone who would like to get results like the ones on the recordings from Stephen's site.

What if the one you have left over goes on the blink?

Then you've got dialysis AND an SPA mic.

And how many people will be able to say THAT?:D  :D

Now there's a true audiophile :D

If we have learned anything this last year, its that any mic can out do any mic at any given moment to someones ears. Sure the Stephen Paul mic will be great, so are some Neumann's and other mics as well.

Its always different strokes for different folks. I never intended to put anyone out of business with Studio Projects. We have done well, and continue to do well. The press is still good, and the B Series press is very good, and now the VTB-1 has great press. We never thought we would win wars with real high end gear, but that was not the intention. I see a few mic companies that are sitting on their ass. I won't mention who they are, but I think we surpassed a few in sales a long time ago. What matters is putting out a good product at a good price.

Stephen Paul will do the exact same thing. He is not looking to put anyone out of business. He has been rebuilding the great mics for the last 20 plus years where no one else could. Sure, some manufacturers took his designs and ideas and implemented them without any compensation to Stephen.

My guess is you will love the mics and my guess is there will be a few who don't. Its always Ying & Yang with everything, but Stephen will put out a great mic, make no bones about that, If some want a Neumann or other mic, hey no problem, Stephen Paul will sell a lot of mics with good reason...:D

to me, the real good thing on this alan is that you're not a big fan of vaporware.
