Yes we are having it computer based.

If I had 15K at my disposal AND I was making Hip-Hop/RnB, I would get........

$700 COMPUTER

$300 TWO (2) GIG'S OF RAM

$100 DUAL VIDEO CARD

$600 TWO (2) 19" LCD VIDEO MONITORS (EBAY)

$50 2ND HARD DRIVE

$1,300 TASCAM FW-1884

$1,000 TASCAM FE-8

$1,000 TASCAM FE-8 (for a total of 24 tracks)

$300 ALESIS M1 ACTIVES MKII MONITORS (EBAY)

$600 MACKIE HR-824'S MONITORS (EBAY)

$100 SONY MDR 7506'S HEADPHONES

$100 SONY MDR 7506'S HEADPHONES

$100 SONY MDR 7506'S HEADPHONES

$2,000 FOR YOUR MICS

$2,700 TWO (2) AVALON 737'S (EBAY)

$2,000 TWO (2) EL-8 DISTRESSORS (EBAY)

$2,000 MANLEY MASSIVE PASSIVE (EBAY)

That will put you at exactly $15,000.00

You'll still need to get a/some....

desk

chairs

sub-woofer

cables

stands

keyboard or a keyboard controller

programs

plug-ins

headphone amp

maybe some ProSamples

I'm sure I left out a few things (hopefully somebody will make some revisions).

You might want to cut out the outboard gear (737's, EL-8's, and the Manley).

That would enable you to get the things that you still need. ;)

Just a quick note on video monitors...like Spinster said, a dual setup is great.

but I highly recommend you look into the 21" Sun monitor model GDM-5410

This retailed at $1000+ new, and were sony's absolute best branded by Sun Microsystems...I use two of these in my setup and couldn't be happier! For some reason they are under the radar and can be had for very cheap!! The first I traded a friend for an xbox (when they were new!) and the second I got off of ebay for under $175 shipped from Abacus Recycling. They display 1280*1024 at 100hz, which is fast enough to avoid any noticable eye fatigue...and are cabable of 1600*1200 should you need it.

edit: improved my English!

(Allen & Heath 16:2, Mackie Onyx with 16ch, Soundcraft or sth along that line)

How great is the Mackie Onyx? Does it provide good quality , for like albums and singles and etc?

I've never used Mackie Mixers. The FireWire option of the Onyx could be nice, though.
I use an Allen & Heath 16:2DX MixWizard which sounds phantastic.

On the GDM 5410, I agree 100%. Used them in a Sun class and they have perfect picture. I'll be getting a few soon. They're $49-170 on eBay. Amazing deal.
