Could anyone direct me as to what I would buy (or even download) if I wanted to split an MP3, adjust the BPM's and then put it together with other MP3's that I've done the same thing to.....? I'm trying to make a 2 or 3 minute set of music, using about 6 or 7 different song bits, but I'd like the BPM to be the same through out. This would be my first time messing around with this kind of thing, so if you know of anything that is good for beginners please reply.
-Thanks-

You might try a program called Acid.

It's by Sony / Sonic Foundry.

Been a while since I used Acid (yeah I know, no comments/puns) but I believe the sample had to be previously "stamped" with the tempo.

Basically you should be able to use any plugin/daw that performs time compression and expansion.

this is true....however, acid can do this for you to some degree (not always a perfect outcome though). when you import the song into Acid it will ask if you want to make a beat map of it. When you click yes, it asks you to find the first four beats of the song, and then it calculates where the rest of the beats lie for you...again, it's not always accurate. If you can get it to work it will allow you to adjust tempos of the song, repeat bars, etc. very easily.
Acid's time/compression is pretty good compared to other one's I've seen...however, realize the more you try and get the tempo to change without changing the key of the song, the crappier the sound gets. So if you try and get a 4 minute song to play in 3 minutes time but keep the same pitches, you'll get a lot of extra artifacts that will ruin the sound of the song and may make it unrecognizeable to some people.

does the BPM have the be the exact same?? it may look pretty cool if the Cheer team changes tempos along with the songs...although I guess that all matters on the abilities of the cheer team and whether or not they can do that.

good luck.

Thanks guys for helping me. I know mixing cheer music isn't that exciting or interesting for most of you :) I'm hoping I can learn more about mixing, I used to play around with DJ'ing but mixing on the turntables is a LOT different than mixing on the PC!
