If I am doing all my recording and mixing on computer and buring to disc from my cppmputer, there is not much point in getting any kind of processor is there?

I guess I always thought processors were there to use while mixing down from one source to another, and since I do all that in my computer I didn't see a use for one.

-But can the processor be placed before the computer to change the effect on a sound as it is being recorded?????

You could certainly effect or process the signal before going into the computer. Some people prefer external hardware processing better than software processing. It's just a matter of taste. If you are happy with the processing you are getting inside the pc then i'd stick with it.

For instance you could send your mic signal into a mic pre and then a hardware compressor before going into the computer. Or compress a song outside the pc on mixdown and then back into the pc to burn.

If you have an external mixer you could use it's inserts and aux sends for processing from external units before going into your delta.

But you may find that it would take considerable $$ in hardware to get a big difference over your pc's internal processing. Although there are some budget hardware pieces that sound great and you may enjoy.
