I am new to Midi but I have sucessfully recorded a song in Cubase SX v1 comprising drums, strings, bass, audio guitar and vocal - It has turned out well.

My question relates to processing - I have added Reverb, chorus etc to the Audio tracks but I don't know how to do this to the Midi tracks. I don't understand most of the processing options for Midi but why is there no reverb, EQ etc?

Perhaps it's not possible? But I am sure I have seen it done on friends systems, or did I imagine it?

I have read the posts on recording Midi to Audio and then processing which I will try, if thats the only way.

Thanks

The midi tracks are being played live by the softsynth every time. If you want to process them with audio effects you need to record them as audio tracks.

Some softsynths have processing but if you want total control you are better off processing them as audio files.

You can't add audio effects such as reverb to MIDI because MIDI is not audio. it is only information that triggers that notes on the VSTi's that in turn create audio.

You can, however, add effects to the VSTi's without recording audio tracks. Hit F3 to open up your mixer, and make sure that VSTi channels are not hidden. Show "inserts" or "sends" or whatever you want to use, and then on the VSTi channel (NOT the MIDI channel - the meters will probably move together) choose your effects.
