Problems with pops and clicks

I recently purchased a new computer and I saved all of my files from the old one and saved them on a data disk. All the files are in wave form and I burned them to a blank cd-r. These beats played perfectly on Windows Media Player when I changed the sample rate to a higher latency. I tried to pull them up in Cubase and I'm getting alot of pops, clicks, delays in the beats. The beats were created on Reason and Fruity Loops3 and they played perfectly fine on the old computer. I think it might be the sample rate.

The sample rate should always be set at 44,1 kHz.
Maybe it has something to do with the configuration of Cubase on your new pc. Have you tried changing the buffer size?
The delayed beats are very weird. Are you sure you set the bpm the same as they were in Fruity Loops?

You also need to shut down as many competing processes as possible when using Cubase. It doesn't share resources well. Version 5.1, anyhow - no experience with SX yet.

Make especially sure to shut down anything else that uses audio - lotsa nasty crackles otherwise!!!

Have you configured your new system and soundcard for SX? Do you have the latest driver for your soundcard? Pops and clicks are often a problem related to older drivers for soundcards, and computer configurations. Changing the sample rate on playback will just make it play back slower or faster (at least that's what happened on my system when I accidently bumped the sample rate) and I don't think will cause pops and clicks.

If your new system runs Windows XP, have you tweaked the computer to be optimised for digital audio? If not go to www.musicxp.net and perform the suggested changes. Make sure you have the newest driver for your soundcard and double check the settings in Cubase to make sure that it all looks okay.

If your still having trouble why don't you post up your system specs and maybe people will have more suggestions.

I seemed to have solve this simple problem on my own. Just in case anyone else may run into this problem, I'll explain: The files were saved in wav format on a data disk. I tried to use the files in Cubase to record tracks to go along with them,but all I got was skips, pops, cracks,etc. All I had to do was to save the files from the data disk into My Documents so that the files could be played even without the disk being in the drive. Now I can only save the beats that I am currently using at a specific time instead of having a million tracks and files all over my computer. Isn't that a good idea or what? Hope my insight helped someone alot!

Maybe you already realized this Kelley, but the reason you were getting the clicks and pops is because your computer can't stream the audio nearly as fast from your disk than it can from your hard drive. From now on just make sure you've got those beats in your my documents folder and you should be fine.
