Hey I have recently purchased a new laptop for recording because the older one was getting too slow and far too many hang-ups and skips when multitracking and adding efx etc.
I now have a quad core 1.73GHz (8 x 1.73GHz) i7 processor with 6gb ram which I believe should be more than enough to run Audition smoothly, however I am still getting skips and breaks when recording more than 4 tracks onto the multitrack recorder??
I am using asio4all and am not running any additional programs in the back ground but still seem to be getting these problems.
They seem to be getting worse the more tracks I add, I understand that this would be a problem if my processor and ram where too little but I think I should have enough now... Is there any way to set audition (buffers etc) to correct this issue or should I move over to Sonar or something that seems a more stable?? I have been using Audition since 1.5 so would not like to change but if Audition cant grow with my studio then I will have to leave it behind. help anybody?? cheers

What are you using for a soundcard or audio interface?

Try increasing your buffer size - in the asio driver setup

+1 on what Runaway said about buffer size.

The other thing you mentioned was no programmes running in background...but you should also check on (and shut down) all networking, especially Wifi and any anti virus software you may automatically boot up. Wifi and AV rarely play nicely with recording.
