Problems Exporting in 6.2

I recently stepped up to 6.2 coming from 5.x. I tried to export a stereo mix for the first time using 6.2 with some horrible results.

It's a new project (not upgraded), simple two track solo acoustic guitar ditty (2 mics in stereo) on to two seperate tracks.

I recorded, blended and played back the two tracks through a buss with a couple light effects. Sounded fine so I selected the two tracks (click the first tracks, press-n-hold shift and click on second track), selected export and chose the usual, "entire mix" option and saved as a RIFF file.

Went back and listened to it using windows media player and noticed that it seems off balance. Pulled up Sony Audition and came to realize that there wasnt any info in the left channel. I've exported and reviewed my process several times now but can't seem to get a stereo export.

Are the individual tracks stereo or mono? How are they panned?

Mics are mono sources. You can't record them in stereo. What it sounds like you did is simply put two different mics on the guitar. If so, you should be recording them to individual MONO tracks. You can then play them back in stereo by panning one track left and one right.

Is the mix playing back in stereo when you play it in Sonar?

Need more details, but it doesn't sound like the problem is in the export.

My tracks are mono ( 2 each) and one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. It was sort of a test run so I thought I'd put something simple down just to get the feel of the app. updated.

I'm getting that you're wanting me to check the beginner stuff and that's cool.

I recorded two track, each in mono (each using it's own mic, at the same time...stereo micing). Track one was on the neck panned left, track two was at the bridge panned right). Sounded fine during playback in SONAR...stereo-phonic, nice width and all.

Then, to finish, I decided to listen on a different listening station so I planned to burn a simple disc. . Selected/highlighted both tracks (just as I used to do in Sonar 5) and exported. Exported using the entire mix option and only hear one side. No stereophonic experience at all. I confirmed this now using a couple wave editor applications I have available to me.

Always the best place to start.

OK, step 2. You said you had the tracks routed to a bus. Check that the bus is panned center.

I assume the bus is then routed to your sound card. Check that the sound card out is also panned center (you are probably going to need to open the Console View to see the sound card busses. They will be to the far right.).

All of the above is probably not the issue, as you then should be hearing the same problem in Sonar.

I'll assume that in the Export dialog menu, you are choosing to export to a stereo file, and not to separate left and right files? Otherwise you should get a warning that two files will be created.

Now, on the exported mix, are you hearing both mics, but only they are playing on just one side. Or are you hearing only one of the mics? This might be hard to tell, since they were recorded simultaneously. You might try putting some funky effect on each one (a different one on each). That should help you tell if both tracks are getting exported (since you should hear both effects). If you only are hearing one, that is a clue. We would then need to figure out why the other track is not exporting.
