problem

there is a nasty buzz comin out of my amp... bought a new cord..(for 6 string guitar) but it is still buzzing

do i need to trash the amp?

Its a crate somethin or another

Probably a bad input jack or a bad filter cap in the power supply.. You have a choice... fix it or dump it. I'll defer to somebody who knows that amp where it comes to suggesting which.
 
Get it checked by a pro, if repairs will cost as much as half the replacement cost...trash it.
 
Try a power conditioner. Kinda like a power strip, but nicer, and probably a little more expensive.

Is the buzz there if you turn the volume all the way down on the guitar? How about if you unplug the cord from the amp and turn the volume up on it? If you give the amp a good thump, does anything change?

Btw on the amp.

check your guitar on other amps, see if you get the same buzz, it could be the guitars electronics (bad wiring) :)

when you`ve tried that.

try other outlets, try another room.

fwiw; my Guitar (strat) is very sensitive to crt screens, and gives a buzz if I come close.

thanks naka. i just tried a different cord connecting from my guitar to amp, and the buzz is almost silent. You guys are great...
hey if anyone wanna gives me some positive rep.. feel free. i guess i cant give positive rep if my rep is negative:(
 
It's probably just the Crate, I had a Crate once upon a time that picked up radio signals better than my radio. It didn't matter where I set it up, plugged it in, or whatever, but every once in a while it would pick up a good station, so I guess it could of been worse. :p

thats unfortunately fortunate...
there is still a little buzz, but it has always been a little buzzy
