Problem with SONAR 5?

I'm doing something I used to do with SONAR 4 all the time...set up mics, listen up while the artist is warming up or working something out...I usually do this by simply arming the tracks and sit back listen, fiddle with the preamps...stuff like that. Never had an issue with it before but now, after about a minute of idle time (not recording) while track(s) are armed, out of nowhere, all the audio just goes away. I find this to be true as well working with synth/DXI sources as well.

Now, if I click on something in the SONAR screen, it comes back...seems kind of like a sleep mode or something. This doesn't happen when I'm actually recording only after a minute or so of idle time.

This is a big deal to me...it really sucks when I'm working alone since the computer is in one room and I'm playing in another. I do have a remote record/playback pedal set up but the way this is working, I would have to keep the tracks rolling all the time!

Anyone else having this issue?

OK...I've got a little information to add to my problem...this is weird.

I've found that I can make this happen on demand by simply opening the Delta1010 control panel. As soon as it opens, all audio is muted until I again select something in the SONAR screen.

Any thoughts?

This is using Input Monitoring to hear the armed audio, right??

If so, then I have always had the experience you mention with my Direct Pro 24/96 -- if Sonar lost focus, then no more sound...

I have just got a Fireface - I will check what it does and let ya know.

Ciao,

Q.

Exactly....I think! I've got input echo selected on my recording tracks...the backing tracks are simply being sent to my mains then to the headphone distribution equipment.

What bugs me is that all I have running is SONAR...nothing else...no network connections no firewall, no virus protection. I can't figure out why that after once the tracks are armed, the audio is present, if I simply do nothing, then after about a minute it just drops out.

I'm so sure that SONAR 4 didn't work this way...I could be wrong...it's possible I simply never noticed.

Thanks for checking into this for me!

If I am right in thinking that it is Sonar losing focus, (so it isn't the foreground task in Windows), then there must be another process kicking in after a minute which is grabbing the focus from Sonar...

Screensaver turned off? Power saving turning anything off after a minute?

Q.

No screen saver...the screen does have a power save/conserve function but that happens after 20 minutes. I tried turning that off but no difference btw.

Keep in mind I'm just using the loosing focus thing as a way to describe what I'm experiencing. At first I only noticed it happening after a minute or so of idle time...then I noticed that I could aggrivate the situation by selecting the M-audio control panel...I was checking to see if the audio card had lost audio to/through it but that turned out to be a bad test because as soon as I open it, the audio goes away. I guess what I'm trying to say is, is it SONAR or is it the audio card loosing or shutting down audio processing.

Thanks to you guys/gals for haning in there with me...this little problem has really put a stop to the progress on a project of mine.

The deal is, I'm working on a little one-man-band project. I've got a great rhythm and drum track set down and the leads are mostly complete but I've got a pretty big solo section I'm trying to work out so, I really don't want to record all of the goofing and noodling...ya know?

Just wondering...if it's true that some other application or process is coming to the foreground, is it possible to tell which one? I've gone into the Windows Task Manager and looked under applications and find nothing else running. Now under processes, that's another matter. I've turned off all that which I can account for but there are a few left that when I disable them, the PC farts and shuts down/restarts.

After mucking with it for the last two days, I've got it licked. Turns out because of the plug in hound that I am, one of the plug-ins I had loaded was a trial version which I hadn't yet activated the registration on. I'm such a dumb ass...I bought it way back and simply didn't enter the registration code! As soon as I entered the registration code, the thing stays put.

duh  if I were just a bit more limber, I would have to give myself a proper ass kickin :p

Thanks for the suggestions and the support.

Well done mate! Now you can enjoy a happy recording holiday season of choice!

Have Fun!
