hey all -

i don't know the technical terms for mics, so pardon my ignorance. :-)

Anyhow, my lovely ex-singer from a former band used to love to tap on the head of my shure 57 to see if it was on. maybe tap is too gentle of a term...

anyway, the head of the mic is now pretty loose. will this affect my recording with the mic at all? is it possible to tighten?

thanks!

The head is supposed to be loose. It won't affect the sound.

it is?? well, color me stupid. i wonder why i never noticed it before...

I knew when I saw the title of this thread that something was fishy, lol.

I've noticed that they do get a bit easier to spin after a bit of abuse, but that's not from tapping I don't think. I've literally run over one with a PA trailer before. It's scuffed...no other problems.

I don't know why Shure makes the grill all spinny like that...

War

or plastic like that, not that i'm trying to put down the 57.

lol

Ha...Yeah that loose grill only caused me problems once...We had my floor tom mic'ed and with every hit there was this weird vibration or shake...I checked all my lugs, sorrounding drums, and my duct tape on it before I realized it was the mic grill shaking around...Had to tape that baby still.
